Let's go

Take these chances
Place them in a box until a quieter time
Lights down, you up and die

On this day in 1994, Under the Table and Dreaming was released. Well, Dave, 26 years later I can say with complete certainty, there *is* no quieter time. And today is a great day for the reminder.

I know I'm not the only person who feels things have been especially difficult, lately. In general, life is hard, and a pandemic no one can seem to agree on, divisive politics, deaths of personal heros, economic uncertainty, etc. etc. etc... it's a lot.

And then, just in case it may be A Quieter Time, you take on a puppy. Because, well, she needs a good home and you can give it to her.

And then you send your friend a text with a photo of the delicious beer you discovered at that Wisconsin grocery store when she did her IronMan, and she tells you that was FIVE YEARS AGO, and you realize... time really does wait for no man.

For a little perspective on just how much can go on in a five years time span, 54 years ago my dad started a job at the company he'd ultimately retire from. Within five years of his start date, he would be forced to admit defeat from his wife and kids and file for divorce, and then marry my mom and very happily start a completely new life in a completely new state.

And then, your mom tells you a beloved neighbor is close to death, as you pet your doggie, who lived through sepsis so that you could all enjoy BONUS TIME for at least The Next Five Years.

And you realize you really aren't that far off from Lights Down, and that you have to give things up to get what you really want, and maybe it's scary and terrifying but it's also the only thing that really matters, so you just make peace and know that a decision is a decision and you just need to make one and actually, it's already made.

And if nothing can be done
She'll make the best of what's around
